* Osteoporosis Seminar
Melbourne Osteoporosis Support Group is running an osteoporosis seminar as part of Seniors Week on Saturday October 11 from 1.30-3.30pm. Speakers will include Associate Professor Robin Daly, Principal Scientist in the Department of Medicine, Western Hospital, University of Melbourne and staff from the Monash Medical Centre Bone Density Department. It will take place at St James Church, Corner of High Street and Burke Road, Glen Iris. Entry is free and afternoon tea is provided. Bookings are essential. Contact Beryl Logie on (03) 9885 2839.

* Encourage your patients to take control
Arthritis Victoria now has available four new condition-specific consumer information booklets covering four major musculoskeletal conditions. Titles in this series include Taking control of your osteoarthritis; Taking control of your rheumatoid arthritis; Taking control of your ankylosing spondylitis; and Taking control of your psoriatic arthritis. Each comprehensive booklet has been developed by leading experts in the area and covers an overview of the condition, discusses the role of various medical specialists, allied health practitioners and interventions such as medications and complementary therapies. The booklets also provide a list of useful resources and highlights the range of social and psychological supports available for consumers. * Youth and Family Services Education Update Workshop
A/Professor Sue Piper, Paediatric Rheumatologist at Monash Medical Centre, will be discussing "Medications: How, what and why we use the medications we do in treating JIA" and Dr Jane Munro, Paediatric Rheumatologist at The Royal Children's Hospital discussing "Pain: From your brain to your experience".

* Exercise and Chronic Musculoskeletal conditions seminar
This specially designed one-day seminar for allied health assistants, diversional therapists, personal care attendants and nurses with experience in exercise will focus on improving knowledge of exercise for chronic musculoskeletal conditions such as osteoarthritis or osteoporosis.

* Strength Training for Chronic Illnesses professional development seminar
Are you a physiotherapist or exercise physiologist wanting to design evidence-based strength training programs for people with chronic illnesses? If so, this one day intensive seminar based on evidence-based research and clinical guidelines is the course for you. This course is recognised by The Australian Physiotherapy Association, the Australian Association for Exercise and Sport Science and Kinect Australia. All offer professional development points for attending.

* Better Health Self Management leader training courses
The Better Health Self Management Course (BHSMC) is an internationally recognised standardised course that trains participants to co-lead in pairs a six week program for people with chronic conditions - heart disease, arthritis, diabetes, asthma, bronchitis and more. The model was developed by Stanford University and has been available in Australia since 1994, is known internationally as the Chronic Disease Self Management Program (CDSMP).
